You know what the problem is. There is no place to go for unbiased political advice. Our political system is in a state of perpetual crisis. People are disengaging from the political process.
Only half of the eligible voters voted in the last presidential election. Only one out of five of us vote in state elections and only a third will vote in the mid-terms this fall. Why are we not voting?
Why? Because we’re losing trust in the government; things like corruption, incompetence and the surveillance state are weighing on our collective conscience. Because politics is so divisive. Partisan politics gets between friends and family members.
Politics is information overload. It’s so complex it’s overwhelming. One person just can’t sort through it all, even if they wanted to.
We’re losing the belief that our vote makes a difference. And the mainstream media are all so biased, we don’t know who we can trust. So we feel under-informed. And if we can’t vote wisely, we figure why vote at all.
The less we participate, the more dysfunctional our government becomes, which makes us hate it even more and want to participate even less. Even though congress has a 10% approval rating, 90% of the incumbents were still re-elected. Why? Because we don’t know what our elected officials are doing and whom to blame; whom to hold accountable.
iGovern, your own free, non-partisan, and personal political advisor.
Here’s how it works:
- You sign up and tell us what issues you care about.
- When a bill we know you care about comes up for a vote in congress, we send you a text-message-sized summary of the bill, in layman's terms anyone can understand, that gets you up to speed in seconds.
- You get to vote on the bill and we send the results to your elected officials so they know how their constituents want them to vote.
- And, after they vote, we compare how they voted with how you wanted them to vote, resulting in a compatibility percentage rating that you see when you launch iGovern. If they vote against you a majority of the time, the percentage is in red. If they vote with you a majority of the time, the percentage is in green.
We just made yards signs and political propaganda obsolete because our elected officials can’t hide from their record, and not only do we put it in the palm of your hand, we show you how it compares to what you, personally, believe.
Everyone we talk to says the same thing. This needs to exist. It’s crazy this doesn’t exist yet. It’s a no-brainer.
No matter how political savvy you are, you can’t do it all by yourself. So let us help.
We’re excited to give interested investors exclusive access to the beta of our web app. Just click on the “Ask a Question” box on the right sidebar to request access. We’ll send you the login and password for beta.igovern.com.
Our target market is all eligible voters, but the low hanging fruit is the 90-plus million Americans who are already politically active online and consume political news and information each month.
We have no direct competition. All the top political sites are news sites, digital magazines, blogs and link aggregators that all have a political bias. There are three fairly new web or mobile apps in the political space.
There’s a website called PopVox that allows you to publicly voice support or opposition to a bill, write your congressman and share it all over social media.
An iOS 7 app called iCitizen that barrages you with polls but delivers nothing of unique value to the user in return.
Countable comes the closest to direct competition as it does provide bill summarization, the opportunity for a user to vote on the bill, and see how their elected official voted. However, their editorializing is of questionable tone and political bias, doesn’t address information overload, provide with you with personalized advice, or show you how well you’re being represented.
iGovern is totally free to voters. Over the next couple of years, we’ll roll out user accounts for elected officials, NGOs and PACs with the freemium model, with irresistible features available by subscription or a la carte.
Our web app is currently ready for beta testing and our iOS mobile app will be ready by January 2015. We will follow up with an Android release as soon as possible. We think mobile will be a huge catalyst for engagement and user growth.
We have both proprietary and competitive advantages. We’re non-partisan. We have a patent pending protecting our core business model. We have unique IP around how we handle user security and personal data. We combine academic, algorithmic and editorial methodologies to summarize the bills. And, the more you use iGovern, the better it learns how to inform your decision making. Finally, we’re the first political platform to take a truly transparent and objective approach to voter education and activation.
We’re seeking $500,000 to hire key talent needed to continue web and iOS development, expand into Android, conduct our beta testing, and set up our infrastructure to support the commercial launch of iGovern v1.0 to the public in six months. We’re going to spend the next two years acquiring users so we can be a force in the 2016 elections.
